The large patch with the motto "Grin and Bear It!" is for Trick 2, 12th U.S. Army Security Agency Field Station (USASAFS) in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan. ASA Soldiers were task organized into "Tricks" or teams that worked in rotating shifts (Days, Swing, Night). Tricks would work for six days and get two days off. After the two days off, the tricks would change shifts. The motto "Grin and Bear It!" along with the image of a Bear walking from the compound to a bar references the Field Station's nickname, Kuma Station. Kuma is the Japanese word for Bear.
Established following World War II, the Army Security Agency (ASA) assumed command of all SIGINT and security establishments, units, and personnel in the Army.
